GOAL-FOCUSED, DEDICATED, NEURODIVERSE ATHLETE
My goal is to compete in collegiate gymnastics at an all-around level. This wonderfully dynamic sport has been a part of my life since I could walk. I began to formally compete in 2018. First, through USAG’s Xcel levels followed by the developmental program (DP) levels. I currently compete USAG level 8. Every day is an opportunity for me to learn, grow, and improve athletically. Gymnastics is a complex, highly competitive, challenging sport, not only physically, but mentally as well. Strength, consistency, power, and grace are as essential as knowing how to center yourself, reset, and calm your mind. Practicing mindfulness through meditation is critically important to how I approach my daily practices as well as competitions. Gymnastics is as much a team sport as it is an individual one. My coaches and my teammates make all the difference—they build me up, teach me, support me, and challenge me to do and be more every day. As a neurodivergent gymnast (ADHD), gymnastics is and has been a way of surmounting not only physical challenges, but neurological hurdles too. This incredible sport is basically a metaphor for how I approach academia as a neurodiverse person. My focus, strength, clarity of thought, and concise articulation of words are constantly challenged by the way my brain processes, retains, reacts to, and executes on information. Gymnastics tests my physical and mental fortitude, clarity of thought, and presence of mind. Gymnast is a title I wear with pride because, I believe, I earn it daily.

A WORD FROM ISA'S LPC
“Isa has the heart of a champion. She recognizes her mindset and mental preparation are equally as important as her physical preparation in the gym. She has made her mindset practices (and mental fortitude preparation) an important part of her daily routine to keep herself “tip top” both mentally and physically. Isa proactively recognizes academic as well as athletic growth opportunities, and instead of shying away from (or delaying) them, she digs in, does the foundational work, and levels up. Isa is an inspiration. I am honored to be a part of Team Isa!”
